Village of Oswego Trustee Brian LeClercq announces run for Oswego Village President at Camille's Restaurant along the scenic Fox River in downtown Oswego:
Ladies and gentlemen, members of the press, citizens of Oswego:
My name is Brian LeClercq, and I am running for Village President.
This decision was made after much consideration and deliberation. First and foremost, it was extremely important to have the love and support of my family. Without that, nothing else really matters.
Secondly, I needed to get proper approvals from the Securities Exchange Commission and my broker-dealer, as I hold various securities licenses and deal with great sums of money. In fact, my employer is building a bank in Oswego, where my new office will be located, and I will be closer to the people I serve.
Next, I had to ask myself if I really had the time and energy to dedicate to the position and the Village of Oswego. That was an emphatic YES!
Finally, I had to know if the Village would embrace someone with fresh ideas and a new vision for our community. After receiving several phone calls and pleas saying "I hope you're running," along with the love and support of my family, I am able to stand here today and make this announcement.
Some of the things I envision for the Village of Oswego are:
1. Honest and open communication - the current way of your government communicating what we do for you must go! Instead, we need to listen to what you need from us. What is important to you. Along with that, we need competitive bidding for tax dollars. If we are spending your tax dollars we had better not squander them. WE BETTER GET THE BEST BANG FOR YOUR BUCK!
2. I would work with the other governmental bodies that impact Oswego, not just to have State of the State" meetings, but rather a hands-on, how-can-we-work-together gathering. How can our synergies best serve our citizens - not just informative, but cooperative.
3. I would be remiss if I didn't mention growth. When I was going to school here, the population sign said 2700.
Now what... Well, our town has surpassed 25,000 in population and developers have had their way with the Village for some time. We are on the map. National companies know where we are. It's time to ask what the developers can do for us.
We need to achieve a greater balance between residential, retail and commercial growth.
Some of these ideas may not be easy, but I understand that. I am looking forward to the opportunity to serve as the next President of the Village of Oswego. Because, remember, in the end it's all about our community, schools and children.
